Apricena stone caves

An Italian story of over thirty years

A leading company in the design and production of street furniture made from reconstituted local stone (composed of binder and local stone aggregates), Viscio Urban Design develops standard and custom projects.

Apricena’s Madrepietra

Apricena’s Madrepietra — a sedimentary limestone with a calcium carbonate content of 96% — is prized for its strength, durability, and distinctive shades ranging from beige and ivory to soft pink. The extraction area is Italy’s second largest marble basin after Carrara and has been used in prestigious works from the Royal Palace of Caserta to Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino. From this heritage comes Reconstituted Madrepietra: produced with more than 70% local aggregates, it complies with Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) and is UNI/PdR 88 certified, ensuring sustainability, quality, and traceability. Thanks to its consolidated know-how and collaborations with leading architects and designers, Viscio provides both standard and bespoke solutions, supported by comprehensive services including design, technical consultancy, logistics, and installation carried out by specialized staff..

Our strength is the reuse of waste material from our quarries

The considerable extraction work in the area produces an enormous quantity of waste material, destined for mills for the recycling of inert materials.

It’s precisely the waste material resulting from quarrying that makes up over 70% of the mix used to produce a reconstituted stone product by Viscio Urban Design. Sand and Madrepietra breccia are mixed with cement and water to create a granular mixture that is poured into special molds to create various products. This recycled material, recovered locally, is eco-sustainable and environmentally friendly, fully compliant with CAM criteria. If we also consider the use of rainwater (recovered) in the mix, the recycling rate could be increased to well over 72%.
